Gemtree’s husband and wife team, Mike and Melissa Brown, have been gifted the opportunity to work a unique patch of earth in McLaren Vale. By respecting and nurturing this land through organic and biodynamic farming, they’re consistently harvesting high-quality, flavoursome grapes from which they craft their wines.
Gemtree’s Tasting Room is perched on a hillside that gives expansive views over the vineyards and surrounding areas, all the way to the sea in the distance. The elevation makes it the perfect place to slow down and enjoy views of this stunning region, together with a glass of wine and one of their locally-sourced cheese platters.
Melissa Brown heads up the certified organic and biodynamic viticulture, and oversees the cellar and tourism functions while husband Mike is the Chief Winemaker of their award-winning wines. Their journey together to achieve organic and biodynamic certification in 2011 involved both experimentation and determination, but the results that are now evident in the fruit and wines has made it well worth the commitment to these practices.
Melissa and Mike’s story at Gemtree still has many chapters to be written. Under their care, the Gemtree vineyards are flush with health, resulting in exceptional fruit quality and outstanding wines of purity and elegance. Together with their team, they are helping to make the McLaren Vale presence known in many parts of the world.
