The modern design, gallery spaces, restaurant and the top floor tasting room with expansive views over the surrounding vineyards have all contributed to d’Arenberg being named number 29 in the World’s 50 Best Vineyards. The d’Arenberg Restaurant in the Cube is also “swimming in success“. For more about d’Arenberg, the tastings and awards, visit our page.
This tour includes the d’Arenberg Blending Bench experience where you blend your own Shiraz. If you prefer, you can change to one of the alterternative deluxe d’Arenberg tasting experiences listed below and we will adjust your itinerary accordingly.
After exploring the Cube, doing your luxury tasting and enjoying a delicious lunch at d’Arry’s Verandah, the afternoon is spent visiting the iconic Wirra Wirra and Primo Estate wineries, each providing their own special tasting experience.
Your Luxury Winery Tours visit to d’Arenberg includes the fabulous Blending Bench experience (and a delicious lunch at d’Arry’s Verandah). If you would prefer one of the alternative tasting options, just let us know.
The Blending Bench The Blending Bench is a hands on experience where you play winemaker, then take home a bottle of your favourite blend. Working with three barrel samples of single vineyard wine, each with distinctive flavours, you are guided through the blending process to create your own personalised Shiraz. We do all the physical work, now you get to create a wine that is truly unique. You then bottle, name and label a 750ml sample to take home and show off to your friends. (allow 2 hrs)
Private Tasting Experience
The Cellar Door offers a selection of premium tasting flights hosted in a private tasting area. These wine flights explore regional terroir, winemaking techniques, and how these factors influence the different wines and grape varieties. This is a great opportunity to learn about the extensive range of varietals used by d’Arenberg and understand how each wine fulfils the winemaker’s passion and goals. This shorter tasting experience (approx. 45 mins) provides more time for the galleries.
Varietal Masterclass Tasting Learn how to smell, taste, and identify classic grape varieties, while enjoying a selection of cheese. Discover the difference between aromatic and textural white wine, learn how to describe reds using words like mouthfeel, body and tannin. Educational and fun, you are expertly guided through six wines from our award winning portfolio while you graze on a cheese plate and build your wine vocabulary. (Afternoons only. We will re-arrange your itinerary if you would like this 2 hour option.)
The Dead Arm Vertical Tasting Explore the history of our flagship wine, The Dead Arm Shiraz that has received hundreds of accolades from critics and judges around the world since its release in 1993. This vertical masterclass offers exclusive access to six museum vintages guided by your personal d’Arenberg ambassador, while enjoying perfectly matched cheeses.
At the conclusion of the masterclass you receive a current vintage bottle of The Dead Arm Shiraz ($75), presented in a gift box and signed by the winemaker, fourth generation family member Chester Osborn (priceless). (Afternoons only. We will re-arrange your itinerary if you would like this 2 hour option. An additional, fee per person applies.)
d’Arenberg has one of the most extensive lists of varietals, styles and blends of any winery in McLaren Vale, and probably in the whole of Australia. We can’t list them all here, but you will get to taste some of Australia’s best known wines whichever options you select. Other Featured Wines will depend on the wineries you select.
